A new range of devices launching in India is aiming to provide smartphone-like capabilities for a far lower price than traditional smartphones. The OGO devices are now being offered by Bright Telecom’s Wynncom arm.
The two devices – the O-77 Konnect, which features a QWERTY keyboard, and the touchscreen O-78 Touch – are retailing for less than US$100, and support various services more commonly associated with smartphones. These include push email, instant messaging, and social networking services with support of Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
Users receive free internet and mobile messaging services as part of the retail price. Hosted by Wynncom, the services are powered by Synchronica’s Mobile Gateway. Targeted at the youth market, the promotional campaign for the devices is aimed at demonstrating the advantage that they have over more expensive, traditional smartphones.
Arvind Vohra, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Wynncom says: "Staying connected professionally and personally is a key necessity for today's youth. In India, as in the rest of the world, social networking has taken on a new dimension."
"Our devices have been specifically designed with this need in mind. Everything is made available with a push and instantly. Our devices are affordable, and internet downloads, push mail, and instant messaging are all provided by us practically free of charge", Vohra adds.
